A friend and I caught up for lunch in the city and tried the Inka express lunch for $50 consisting of four courses. Our water preference is noted and brought out, and soy sauce dishes filled.

Course 1 and 2 are the chef’s selection of sashimi (three pieces) and a maki roll to share. We are surprised with salmon, kingfish and scallop sashimi – all divine and melts in my mouth. The maki roll is salmon and avocado, topped with an amazing spicy bell-pepper-ish sauce on top. It’s different enough that it sets it apart from a regular salmon and avo roll (my usual lunch-time takeaway healthy go-to). I wanted more of it!

Course 3 is tempura fish and calamari that arrives sitting in a pool of yellow pepper sauce. At first I think there is way too much sauce. But the sauce is so creamy, light and heavenly, with just a little bit of spice but is still extremely mild. I think there’s mayonnaise or sour cream in this, because I am fully immersing the tempura into all this sauce. The tempura seafood is fresh, cooked to perfect and I just love the fish.

Course 4 is our choice of either steamed snapper or wagyu beef. My friend and I both choose the snapper (and I’ve already tasted the wagyu beef at a previous outing). The snapper is so smooth and again cooked to perfection. The flavours are understated letting the natural mild sweetness of snapper shine on its own, with just some charred broccoli and soy mirin in the bowl.

The Inka express lunch still takes an hour, so make sure you have nowhere to be in that duration. Well worth a bit of a splurge for lunch to get to taste all these goodies.

On a separate note, if you’re interested in the $130 tasting menu – see my reel below.
