Located in Grazier Lane in Belconnen, you can find Japanese restaurant Ikko. There are plenty of tables inside and QR codes on each table for easy ordering and payment.

I try the curry yaki udon ($22) because 1) I love Japanese curry, and 2), it looks so different to others I’ve tried. The medium-sized low bowl arrives and it’s the first time I’ve seen this dish look like whipped cream. It is super aerated and fluffy in a yellow tinge from the curry powder. The slightly sweeter curry is mixed with mushrooms and kind of reminds me of a stroganoff as the whipped creamy foam melts. An interesting take on the curry udon. Yes I will have this again!

The pork gyoza ($12) has a crispy thick wrapping, not my favourite but the filling is tasty. I also try the yuzu-ade (like lemonade) which is refreshing and moreish.

The pork katsu curry ($24) comes with rice and egg. I love the little condiments on the side and pickled sauerkraut on the plate to cut through the curry richness, and the fact it comes with a bowl of miso soup too. Hearty, tasty and filling. I can’t ask for anything more, I just wish it was closer to home!

I’d love to try the Ebi Cream Udon and the donburis next time. For dessert, there’s mochi but I’m always too full try it.

Give it a go.
