Note: I was invited to dine in, however all opinions are my own.

We headed to Japanese fusion restaurant Chop Chop in Civic for a quick weekday lunch and seriously enjoyed all the dishes. We start with the prawn rice toast. But this isn’t your traditional prawn toast – think creamy prawn salad with cucumber, celery and mayo on a deliciously thick rice base. I can’t quite describe the base, but it’s like a very condensed sticky rice turned into toast in bite sized pieces. I could easily polish off all 6 pieces in the serve! Definitely give this one a go.

Next, we try the hiramasa kingfish sashimi in a coconut cream and ponzu. This is super fresh and goes down a treat. I really love this with the coconut.

Next is the beautiful ‘Hana’ sushi roll with fresh kingfish and tasty tamago, avocado, lobster salad, lettuce and cucumber covered in fish roe. These are very large thick pieces and delicious. Apart from the kingfish, I think the tamagoyaki really stands out.

The wagyu beef in the wagyu don is so flavoursome and well-marinated. We love the sauciness it leaves on the rice. The onsen egg is slightly overcooked so it’s not actually runny at all, but other than that we enjoy this dish.

We think the dish of the day is the miso-glazed tooth fish. It is buttery soft and perfectly cooked. The sweetness of the glaze and light char on top gives it this wonderful caramelised flavour. I had to fight Mr FPJ for the last morsel, it was so good.

We are far too full at this stage to order any dessert, but I would have liked to try the matcha tiramisu or the custard taiyaki with black sesame ice cream. Other items of interest on the menu – nori tacos, the nigiri platter, lobster bao, yakitori chicken skewers, katsu sando and sukiyaki set.

There’s a decent selection of dishes, lunch specials, and plenty of cocktails, mocktails and other drinks. Worth a try! Thanks to the team for inviting us.
