Following on from Eating in Italy Part 9, we had lunch at Trattoria dalla Mora, specialising in traditional food from the Veneto region. There are several outdoor tables but these are all full on such a lovely day, so we’re seated indoors.

A bread basket filled with an assortment of breads and crackers is set down on the table and drinks ordered.

Carafes of red wine and a rosé arrive. I’m not into wines, but I had a taste of the rosé and it was divine!

The food menu comes in both Italian and English so we get to choose some dishes. The first to arrive is the porcini tagliatelle in white truffle butter (12€). A simple dish packed with so much flavour. Delicious. But you can’t really go wrong with butter. Of course all the pasta is handmade at the restaurant.

The tagliatelle with scallops and zucchini (10€) was a more healthy option compared to the truffle butter in the previous pasta dish. Fresh vegetables and the hint of the sea coating the tagliatelle.

The maltagliati with seasonal vegetables and grated ricotta (8€) was something a little different. The ricotta slowly melted into the pasta after being mixed in giving the dish some creaminess on top of the drizzle of olive oil.

My aunt ordered us grilled horse meat steak, a delicacy in the Veneto region. It actually didn’t taste too bad – sort of a cross between beef and venison, with a simple seasoning of salt, pepper and some herbs.

To our surprise, some sides arrived as well – roast potatoes and peas (3-5€ each).

My aunt also sneakily ordered the horse meat stew with polenta (10€). This was a bit too gamey for my taste and not the most tender but apparently a very popular dish in the region.

Even after all that food, I still wanted tiramisu for dessert. It didn’t disappoint but it was a rather small slice. It came with a small side of whipped cream on the plate but I felt that it wasn’t needed as the tiramisu is creamy enough on its own.

The entrance to the trattoria is gorgeous with beautiful grape vines hanging above and down the walkway. Plenty of space for any kids to run around too.
