Local Press Cafe is my local breakfast spot and being an early morning person, I usually go for a walk or bike ride around the lake before stopping in for breakfast. The cafe offers completely wholefood and healthy options for both breakfast and lunch.

Local Press Cafe Kingston ForeshoreI can never pass on a cold pressed juice ($7) from here. Love the watermelon, pineapple and mint juice (left) and the orange and mandarin juice (right).

Local Press Cafe cold pressed juicesI noticed the new summer menu is out with a new addition for brekky – the pancake of wholemeal oats, banana and coconut with fresh seasonal fruits, mint and whipped mascarpone ($18). I love pancakes! And with a wholemeal oat pancake, I can be a little bit healthier.

Local Press Kingston pancake of wholemeal oats and fruitsThe wholemeal oat pancake looked amazing. As usual the presentation at Local Press is fabulous with vivid bright colours and seasonal produce. I could taste the natural sweetness of banana that had been mixed in with the oats to make the pancake itself. What a great idea to lift what would otherwise have been boring oats. I love coconut so the coconut flakes in this dish is a bonus. Stone fruits are in season at the moment and are just fresh and delicious on the pancake. The mascarpone was the only ‘naughty’ element on the plate and worked well to balance out the passion fruit pulp and add an extra bit of sweetness. A fantastic dish. No complaints here.

The lunch time menu should satisfy most vegetarians with many veggie options available. I’ve tried the salad of kale, baby cos, sweet potato, boiled eggs, cherry tomato, asparagus, fetta and chickpeas sprinkled with macadamias and peanuts ($20). The cos lettuce and kale were served in full form so I had to slice it into appropriate bite sized pieces. Protein from the eggs and nuts, plus carbs from the sweet potato made this a filling meal. Served on a large plate, I didn’t finish it all and it kept me full for a few hours afterwards.

Local Press Cafe Kingston kale saladMy vegetarian friends both ordered the raw zucchini pasta with napoletana sauce, olives, oyster mushrooms, parmesan crumbed eggplant, basil, lemon zest and roasted nuts ($20). The ‘pasta’ is completely made of zucchini so there is no guilt after finishing a plate of this.

Local Press Cafe Kingston raw zucchini pastaWait time is usually 20 minutes. However during busy lunch time periods, this can be more like 40 minutes. You do pay a little extra for the wholefood goodness and Foreshore views but I always leave Local Press Cafe guilt-free and feeling good.
