Best Cheap Eat – Kebab at Turkish Halal Pide House Yarralumla
We rediscovered the famous Turkish food in Yarralumla after we realised it had been years since we last visited. These kebabs are amazing – the wrap itself is soft and fluffy, it’s loaded with plenty of fillings, and my last one weighed nearly 1kg at 908 grams. Yes I weighed it! It’s enough to share between two making it great value for money and it travels well.
Best expensive eat – Mu Omakase
18 courses over 2 hours at the chef’s 12-seater table where I could watch all the action and amazing knife skills. Each course is carefully prepared in front of you. The nigiri is melt-in-your-mouth buttery soft and silky smooth. Everything is clean and well-balanced. A luxurious, treat yourself kind of experience and definitely one of my favourites in 2021. Read my blog post on Mu Omakase here.
Best brunch – East Row
The potato fritters with chorizo and the pork benedict are my favourites for brunching at East Row. I’d easily go back and have them again and again. Read more about East Row on my blog post here.
Special mention to Husk Bakery for their cob loaf big breakfast! Large serving that was big enough for the both of us to share.
Best lockdown eat – Lolo and Lola
Lolo and Lola for the best ribs (now permanently on the menu), BBQ chicken skewers, stews and noodles, plus a range of weekly specials like these empanadas and cinnabuns. Lots of punchy flavours here!

Best lockdown eat (fine dining) – Otis
With printed cooking instructions, this DIY fine dining kit from Otis was easy to assemble at home. Read more about dining at home with Otis here.
Best home bakery dessert
I haven’t had a chance to try out many desserts at local eateries (due to baby and lockdown), but I have gotten to try a few home bakery spots that deliver. My favourite is the lovingly hand-made mochi donuts from Wita Makes. She actually rolls each ball by hand! I’ve ordered these at least 3 times over the year. Wita also makes a range of soft bread, buns, and other baked goodies. She has a regularly changing menu so keep an eye on her website.
Special mention to Donut Girls for Portuguese tarts and coconut bread, and Poked for their tres leches cake. (I’m thinking I’ll write a blog post on more of these home bakeries in the New Year).
