Note: I was invited to try out the new bingsu range, however all opinions are my own.

Super Emoji is known for its bubble teas and iced drinks, mini cake boxes, souffle and various filled choux pastries. There’s a lot more on offer at the City Walk megastore. Late last year, Super Emoji introduced its new bingsu range and we were spoilt with various different flavours to try out. Bingsu is often called shaved ice, but is made out of frozen cream/milk, so there are no hard ice crystals in it making it very easy to eat.

I love bubble tea so I had to try the brown sugar bubble tea bingsu. Theatrics are provided in the form of dry ice in a plate underneath. It does look pretty cool but doesn’t last long. The bingsu is creamy and actually does taste like bubble tea! The black pearls on top are soft and chewy making this my favourite of the flavours we tried.

The mango bingsu is a very close second favourite. It clearly tastes like mango and is so refreshing. The diced mango chunks on top are a bonus – fresh and sweet. A definite summer must-try if you’re a fan of mango.

The matcha bingsu is topped with red bean. The matcha was too strong for my liking but this may have been adjusted by now. I feel that a bit more of the sweet red bean would provide a good offset, or just a little more sugar in the matcha. This flavour is only for the matcha-lovers out there. Mr FPJ didn’t like it but he’s not a fan of matcha or red bean.

Lastly, we got to try the Thai mochi bubble tea bingsu. The bubble tea version is one of my usuals, and I’m pleased that the bingsu version tastes just like the drink with pieces of wobbly mochi and black pearls. This is also laid on top of a plate of dry ice so it comes out smoking (I think all the large sizes have dry ice).

At the time, it took a little while for the bingsu to come out, but it was the first time staff were making these on top of the regular bubble tea orders.

Needless to say, these are going to be a hit this summer! Small bingsu from $11.90, and large from $19.90. You can get your bingsu as a take away option too. I’m told it’s available at all Super Emoji stores except Gungahlin.
