Reflecting back over the year on the last day of 2019, here are my favourite Canberra dishes of the year! (in no particular order). Poachers Pantry smoked duck breast The smoked duck breast with foie gras, spiced pear puree, French plum and buttered spinach as part of the Spring tasting menu. We could smell the […] Read more…
Bubble Tea in Canberra
I moved to Canberra in 2008, and to my horror discovered that there were NO bubble tea shops in the capital. Fast forward 11 years, there are now so many options that I can’t keep up. I want to note that Easy Way was the first bubble tea shop that I knew of to open […] Read more…
Eating in Spain – Barcelona – Part 3 – La Boqueria Market
Following on from Eating in Spain – Barcelona – Part 2, this chapter focuses solely on La Boqueria or Mercat de la Boqueria. Barcelona’s busiest and biggest market. It was mid-afternoon when we arrived so it was packed full with a crowd. I found that it was difficult to stop and browse as there were […] Read more…
Breakfast specials @ Two For Joy
With all the new café openings to keep up with, it’s nice to go back to an established café. Two for Joy has been in Kingston’s Green Square for years, and is still going strong. I recently rediscovered it when trying to find a place for weekend breakfast within walking distance. The weekly changing breakfast […] Read more…
Tasting Menu @ Poachers Pantry
Note: We were invited as guests to dine in and try the 4-course tasting menu at Poachers Pantry. However, all opinions are my own. I hadn’t been back to Poachers Pantry out in Hall in years, so when I received an email inviting us to come try the Spring tasting menu, it was a definite […] Read more…
Eating in Spain – Barcelona – Part 2
Following on from Eating in Spain – Barcelona – Part 1… Forn de Sant Jaume After a blissful morning discovering Casa Batllo (highly recommend booking the 8am private tour before it opens to the general public), we sauntered down to Forn de Sant Jaume (about a 2 minute walk from Casa Batllo) for breakfast. I […] Read more…
French Banquet @ Les Bistronomes
Les Bistronomes recently move from Braddon into the Campbell shops. There are secluded seating areas which can be made more private by drawing the curtains closed. The French bistro seems to fit in seamlessly into the space vacated by the Lanterne Rooms, simply requiring a few French paintings and decor. As there were 4 of […] Read more…
Breakfast @ Wildflour (Fyshwick)
Wildflour is located in the middle of Fyshwick (taking over from what was Remy’s Bakery), an artisan bakery and cafe. It looks exactly the same though the display cabinet is a lot more appealing with a big range of cakes and tarts as well as hot pies. But it’s Wildflour’s croissant and doughnut stand that […] Read more…
Eating in Spain – Barcelona – Part 1
In August 2019, Mr FPJ and I headed to Europe for an epic 6 week holiday. Barcelona was our first stop in Europe. I couldn’t wait for tapas and all the jamon. Our flight landed at 9.00pm so by the time we caught the metro to our hotel (in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona), […] Read more…
The Italian Place
As I walk in the front door, I immediately notice the freshly made pasta available for purchase displayed behind glass at the front counter. Not knowing what to expect, my mood picks up and my expectations are raised. I’m greeted by the waiter (who I recognise from somewhere – probably another Italian dining establishment in […] Read more…
