I’ve revisited Teddy Picker’s in Campbell a few times now for brunch since a previous post on the café. However, it was my first time ordering their famous French toast which changes according to the season. The summer version incorporated fresh mango, mango sorbet, lime curd and milk crumb ($18). Oh my goodness – it was heaven! The French toast truly stands out from other cafes in Canberra. It’s extremely soft and looks dense, but is actually very airy like a cloud. It’s also bigger than it looks and filling. Mango is one of my favourite fruits so this dish was simply divine.
I also ordered one of the specialty teas – the Vanilla Jazz which came with a timer so I knew the correct brewing time. I do like Teddy Picker’s tea menu which lists temperature and brewing times, as well as whether it can be rebrewed.
On another brunch visit, I tried one of their weekend specials – the deep fried ice cream pancake sandwich ($19). Wow! It looked amazing. It looks small in the photo, but was quite large in reality. The fried pancakes were also very thick – about 1.5-2cm tall and a tad crispy on the outside but very soft on the inside. Both pancakes sandwiched goats cheese ice cream which I was a little skeptical of at first, however I was proved wrong. It had a wonderful flavour with its natural subtle sourness contrasting against the sweetness of everything else on the plate. There was a generous amount of raspberry jam loaded on top which, mixed with the pancake and ice cream, made the whole dish taste almost like a jam doughnut! Mmmm…I gave feedback when paying the bill and suggested placing this dish on the regular menu. It was that good.
I’m still yet to try their famous crumpets which seem to be another weekend special, so I’ll just need to stalk their social media accounts to find out when it’s back!
