Take Away High Tea @ L’Orange Patisserie

Mother’s Day this year consisted of a take away high tea from L’Orange Patisserie in Manuka. Packed into four take away boxes, the cost is $120 for two people.

Savouries: Three types of sandwiches and two types of savoury quiche tarts. The sandwiches did start to dry out towards the end there but are large and very filling. The tarts are buttery and cheesy, and I just love the pastry shell. Plus they kept well the next day.

Sweets: I’m so excited that this high tea includes four buttermilk scones with jam and cream (two per person). The scones look a little dry at first, but I’m happy to find they are fluffy inside and Mr FPJ (great lover of scones) enjoys them too. The cakes include a pistachio raspberry mousse cake, macarons, profiteroles, opera slice, fruit tarts with crème pat, lemon meringue cups, and dutch speculaas hazelnut bavarois slices. The latter has a hint of coffee-like flavour in it. I love both the opera and bavarois slice – but I am partial to chocolate, nuts and coffee.

Note: I do notice that they have a petite fours set for $45 if you want a last minute treat without the savoury items. I’ll have to remember that for next year.

Price-wise, it seems a little expensive for take away in comparison to other high teas – e.g: The Marion which is $70 per person and includes a gorgeous view, tea and service. However, L’Orange Patisserie provides more options (7 sweets vs The Marion’s 4, and two scones per person vs The Marion’s one), slightly bigger portion sizes, is more filling and I’m also happy with the quality of the food.

I believe you can still pre-order a take away high tea at any time of the year. Just visit the website, order and pay for it online, and choose the pick up date. Worth a try if you just want to do something a bit fancy at home.
