During the Christmas break, we had family visit from overseas and found ourselves at Bento Tei in Braddon for lunch. Hidden away on Lonsdale Street at the Nibu building, Bento Tei is a tiny shop with one table inside, and about four tables outside in the courtyard area. I’ve always been meaning to try it so this was a good opportunity.

I try the Signature Bento ($17) and the takoyaki ($5 for 4 pieces) to share. The bento comes with tempura prawn, beef sukiyaki, chicken karaage, rice, potato salad, and green salad. It’s a big portion and everything is tasty. My favourite is the beef and sauce on rice (I could just eat a whole bowl of it and probably will next time!) as well as the karaage. The takoyaki is also delicious and very decently priced.

Someone else in the group orders the chicken karaage rice bowl. It’s a huge bowl with lots of rice and everyone at the table has food envy. It’s seriously good and crunchy, and the favourite dish of the day where everyone keeps stealing some pieces. Two others order the tempura prawn udon set which comes with miso soup and a can of drink.

I didn’t take any more photos but see video of the goods below:

Bento Tei offers lots of variety, very decent prices, good portions and tasty food. There are no complaints from our group. I’m glad I finally got to try it. You can find Bento Tei in Braddon and Gungahlin.
