I booked four of us into Beef & Barley’s Burger High Tea a few weeks ago. There was a half-price deal available on Cudo (it might still be available) so I figured it was the perfect time to try it out. The burger high tea comes with one beer/wine/soft drink/milkshake per person.

Two x three-tiered stands arrived at our table, giving two people a stand to share.

The bottom tier consisted of thick cut chips, popcorn chicken with sriracha mayo, and deep fried haloumi bites with a side of aioli.

The middle tier consisted of a mini pulled pork burger with house made apple sauce and swiss cheese, mini beef burger with bacon, cheddar cheese and pickle, prosciutto-wrapped peppers, coleslaw and pickles.

The top tier was the dessert tier filled with sweet popcorn, lamingtons, macarons, and biscotti.

Both burgers were delicious! I loved the super soft and glossy milk buns. The fillings were generous (the beef pattie was very thick!) and tasty. The four of us were very happy with the burgers. The haloumi bites were crunchy and very moreish. I loved the crunchiness of the thick cut chips (I hate it when chips go soft). I found the popcorn chicken rather bland and thought it could have been seasoned with more flavour.

Dessert was a major let down for me (being such a sweet tooth). It felt like packaged store bought desserts which were very mediocre.

My chocolate milkshake was more of a vanilla milkshake with chocolate syrup squirted around the glass. Not my idea of a chocolate shake. The boys were happy with the beers.

I think if Beef & Barley can up its dessert game and invest in better quality macarons and sweets, this could be a great Burger High Tea. But for half the usual price, it wasn’t a bad way to spend the afternoon. Service was great – we got to pick any table we wanted, the beers came out straight away, the food arrived hot, and staff came out to check up on us to see how we were going and if we needed anything else.

At $40 per person (minimum of 2 people), bookings are essential and can be booked online via the Beef & Barley website. I believe it is available every day of the week and you can choose whichever time slot suits you (we chose 3pm).
