Dinner @ Billy Kwong Sydney

During a weekend stay in Sydney, I got to visit Kylie Kwong’s Surry Hills restaurant Billy Kwong with some friends. The restaurant takes 6pm or 8pm bookings, and those in the 6pm slot need to be out by 8pm. The restaurant rang us earlier in the day to confirm our booking and were advised that […] Read more…

Dumplings @ CBD Dumpling House

CBD Dumpling House opened up a couple of weeks ago at the Canberra Centre. Another new restaurant in the North Quarter after Jamie’s Italian, Papparich and Hero Sushi. I absolutely love dumplings so I headed in for a weekday lunch with my partner. The entrance is in between two buildings (at Scott’s Crossing), just up […] Read more…

Peking duck @ Mr Wei’s

The first time I went to Mr Wei’s, I wasn’t too impressed with the entrees but found the mains were really tasty (and pricey). Specialising in Beijing roast duck (aka Peking duck), I knew I had to come back to try it out. On a Thursday night, some friends and I were deciding where to […] Read more…

Yumcha @ Spicy Ginger

My friend and I had been wanting to try yumcha at Spicy Ginger in Acton for a while, so we finally managed to go there on a Sunday. I’ve only ever been there once a few years ago, and living up to its name, most of the dishes we ordered were very spicy. Yumcha is […] Read more…

Dinner @ Mr Wei’s

I went to see Wil Anderson’s stand-up show at the Canberra Theatre one weeknight, and headed to Mr Wei’s for a pre-show dinner with some friends. As mentioned in a previous post, Mr Wei’s is headed by chef David Wei, formerly of Wild Duck in Kingston. As it is in such close proximity to the […] Read more…

Mr Wei’s now open

I’ve noticed that a new Asian restaurant Mr Wei’s has replaced The Hermitage on London Circuit (near the Canberra Theatre). A Canberra City News article states the owner retired in August and chef David Wei (formerly of Wild Duck in Kingston) is rebranding the restaurant. Prices are a bit more expensive than your average Asian […] Read more…

Dickson Dumpling House – take 2

So I decided to try out more items on the menu at the Dickson Dumpling House after having a dinner banquet here with work colleagues. I made a reservation for Saturday night and we showed up on time. When I told the waitress of my booking, she yelled out something in Chinese to a fellow […] Read more…

Banquet @ Dickson Dumpling House

My foodie work colleague calls me the dumpling queen. I absolutely love eating them!! The Dickson Dumpling House was chosen as a venue for one my work dinners. I’d been here a few years back and didn’t think it was that impressive. However, two of my work colleagues have been raving about it, so I […] Read more…

Yumcha @ China Plate at Kingston

When I found out the new-ish China Plate restaurant in Kingston was serving yumcha on weekends, I put it on my foodie bucket list to try out. There are two yumcha banquets available – standard and premium. We went with the premium banquet. Each person receives one of each yumcha dish. At $40 per person, […] Read more…

Dumplings @ Din Tai Fung Sydney

I was heading to Sydney for the day with a friend to see the show Wicked. I did a bit of research on restaurants and read about Din Tai Fung– advertised as serving the world’s tastiest dumplings.  Din Tai Fung originated in Tai Pei and now has a chain of restaurants all over the world.
