Lunch @ Yarralumla Gallery and the Oaks Brasserie

On a leisurely Saturday afternoon, J and I were meeting up with a few friends at the dog park in Yarralumla. I was hungry so we stopped by the Yarralumla Gallery and Oaks Brassierie for a bite to eat first. I had only been to the brasserie once previously where many scones with jam and cream were had! Upon entering, the first thing I noticed was the huge cake fridge in front of me. OMG.

We were greeted by one of the staff and told we could pick anywhere we wanted to sit down. It was a very spacious area with plenty of outdoor seating in the gardens or undercover in a marquee. It was still a bit chilly that day, so we opted for the undercover area. There was only a drinks menu available on the table while the food menu, as well as tap water and glasses, were brought out to us. The menu offered a range of sandwiches/foccacias, and other items such as burgers and fish and chips. I would have picked the chicken burger that came with a side of fries, but felt like trying the risotto instead. It took some effort flag down a waiter to order. The pumpkin risotto ($19) was not what I was expecting. It was more of a creamy risotto with diced pumpkin in it, whereas I was expecting a beautiful pumpkin puree like that of The Bearded Bean. The risotto was cooked perfectly al dente but just didn’t have enough pizzazz or pumpkin for me.

J was happy with his chicken and avocado focaccia ($13.50) which melted cheese and tiny portion of salad on the side as a decorative garnish.

Service was slow but friendly enough. There were plenty of peaceful spots outside in the gardens. The eatery is pet friendly too with Canine Cuisine on the menu. The nursery and gallery are worth checking out.

Lunch was pretty average but I wouldn’t mind going back for more scones and some of those cakes!
