Brunch @ Cafe 2 Twentyfour (Perth)

After seeing yummy looking instagram shots of Cafe 2 Twentyfour in Perth, Western Australia, I put this down as a list of places I should visit while I was there. My mum, sister and I headed there for brunch one morning. Even on a weekday morning, the cafe was nearly packed with only 2 spare tables left. We noticed there were lots of air conditioning vents above every glass window which was great in the 40+ degree Perth heat. I started off with Gaytime Megashake ($11.90) filed with milk, cream, a whole Gaytime popsicle, salted caramel sauce and salty pretzels. As you can expect, it was very sweet and so sinful! I ended up eating the whole popsicle, some of the pretzels with a few sips of the shake as it was too rich for me. Served in a tall glass, this could definitely be shared between two or more people.

The Nutella home made waffles ($16.90) came drizzled with Nutella and sprinkled with crushed hazelnuts, fresh strawberries and vanilla ice cream. There were two waffles provided cut into halves so it was a very filling dish! I thought the waffles were slightly dry and a little dense. The one scoop of ice cream and small drizzle of chocolate wasn’t enough (for me) to counteract the dry waffles. A shame as I really liked the look and the combination of elements in the dish. Fluffier waffles would have made it pretty perfect.

My mum and sister ordered the ricotta pancakes ($16.90) with caramelised banana, bacon and house made burnt caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. Three large pancakes which I thought were much fluffier than the waffles. As soon as I tasted this, I had huge food envy. I loved the caramelised banana and the luscious caramel sauce. A beautiful combination of flavours!

Service was friendly when we ordered at the front counter. There were bottles and cups for water available at a designated water station. It took about 20 minutes for the food to reach us as it was a busy morning. The atmosphere is relaxed with plenty of chatter. Although the waffles weren’t my favourite, I would definitely go back to try out more of the menu.
