Aperitivo Hour at Carlotta

Note: We’re invited to dine in at no cost, however all opinions are my own.

Carlotta has introduced Aperitivo Hour daily with $9.50 snacks and $15 cocktails.

We start with freshly shucked oysters, served with the cutest little bottle of Tabasco on the side. Let’s just say I got a little heavy-handed with the hot sauce and ended up in a coughing fit — lesson learned!

The mozzarella and basil flatbread feels more like a mini pizza — thin, crispy, and topped simply. Sometimes less really is more, and this one is delicious just on its own.

We really enjoy the arancini bolognese — golden and crispy on the outside, with a rich, flavorful filling, finished with a delicate slice of fresh prosciutto. The polenta chips are equally impressive: perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy inside, and finished with a generous grating of Parmigiano Reggiano.

We also try the spanner crab linguine with lobster bisque and chilli ($39.50). Sadly, this one missed the mark for us — the bisque was overwhelmingly salty and the linguine leaned a little too hard on the al dente side. A shame, because we usually love a good lobster bisque.

The iceberg wedge salad with cacio e pepe dressing, however, is a total winner. Crisp, crunchy lettuce paired with that cheesy, peppery dressing — addictive in the best way. I couldn’t get enough!

For drinks, Mr FPJ went for the strawberry bellini and a limoncello spritz, while I ask for a mocktail — the team mixed up a refreshing blend with elderflower and fruit. The atmosphere during Aperitivo Hour is quiet, simple, and sophisticated, making for a lovely experience (and some much-needed kid-free time!).

Tip: Aperitivo Hour times vary during the week, so it’s best to check Carlotta’s website before you go.
