I read about this new place that served high tea in an article on Hercanberra. There is such a ‘princess’ feeling when going to high tea. Something so special about sharing food and gossip with close girlfriends.
The article stated you’d have to book about 2 months in advance to get a table. I got a group of friends together and made a booking. Located at the Griffith shops, the entry into the café is quite tight until you get to the back room.
The walls were decorated with graphics of the likes of Marilyn Munroe, Audrey Hepburn and James Dean.
We were given the biggest and best table in the room. A gorgeous old wooden table with matching chairs. The lay out of the serving ware was stunning. Linen table cloth, rose chinaware, silver teapots and candelabra and heavy glass water goblets. So much effort went into the presentation.
High tea is $40 per person. First to come out were the hot scones fresh from the oven, served with jam and cream. Each person receives their own 3-tiered stand of goodies. There was lots of variety from cucumber sandwiches, asparagus, savoury tarts to cupcakes, muffins and mini macarons. There is also tea/coffee service.
No joke – each person gets their own!
The owners of the Cafe Societea are absolutely wonderful – so friendly, cheerful and pleased to get to know people at the table. They would bend over backwards to ensure their guests are comfortable, need more tea/coffee, or require anything else to make their time more enjoyable.
None of us could finish all this food, but were provided with plastic takeaway containers to take our goodies home.
I think this is one of the best high teas in Canberra. Such personalised service and no food wastage as the owners make each of savoury/sweet goodies on site according to how many people are booked into high tea. No more no less. I’m giving the service at this place a 10/10. Highly recommend!
