My friends and I had dinner at the Dumpling Inn in Macquarie. I was first introduced to it about 4 years ago (by the same group!) but never got around to writing about it.
I remember a dish of pork mince stuffed into fried pockets and requested we order this again. This is the tasty chopped meats in a sesame roll. It’s similar to sang choi bao with pork mince, onion and some crunch from celery and perhaps from chopped chestnuts. It is soo tasty. The sesame rolls are like little pockets, kind of like a fried dough with crispiness on the outside and some softness on the inside.
I stuff these with the pork mince to make a mini pocket sandwich. It’s delicious. A must order!
The beans with minced pork are tossed with garlic and are fragrant and super tasty.
The dry chilli beef is also fried with thin strips of sweet potato. This is noticeably sticky but I have absolutely no complaints. This is amazing! It’s sweet, slightly tangy, sticky, chewy, with mild chilli and plenty of beef strips dripping in sauce! I would gladly order this again to share.
The deep fried whitebait was nicely salted and crispy, but I couldn’t help feel like it needed a slightly more golden colour.
Pan fried dumplings (10 pieces) had nice brown bottoms and were bigger than expected with juiciness on the inside.
The three cup chicken was glorious – full of flavour, tons of tender chicken, and mixed in with vegetables and smothered and marinated in sauce. Must order this again.
Dumpling Inn in Macquarie is a bit of a hidden gem, very close to the Jamison shops and well worth travelling to. It’s a big dining space with several larger round tables for larger groups. Old-school traditional. I can’t remember the prices but they are pretty reasonable. Yum cha is available both Saturday and Sunday, which I’m yet to check out.
