Ming’s Pantry at No Name Lane in Acton opened up earlier in the year serving Malaysian street food. A friend and I went to check it out for lunch one weekday. There weren’t many tables which filled up quickly with the lunch time rush. There is a self serve water and cutlery station available.
I ordered the Nasi Lemak with curry chicken ($16) which arrived quickly at the table. The dish came with dried anchovies, peanuts and rice crackers. I loved the large chunks of tender chicken and the delicious mild curry sauce served in a separate small bowl. Unfortunately the rice wasnโt as fragrant and coconutty as I thought it would be, but that’s an easy fix and feedback was provided.
My friend ordered the dry egg noodle with curry chicken ($15) served in a dark caramel soy with choi sum on top, plus a separate bowl for the curry. The noodles alone filled a huge bowl! Portion sizes are nothing to complain about and it was a stretch to finish it all. I love noodles and hoping to order this next time.
On another visit to Mingโs Pantry, we ordered the char kway teow and mee goreng to share. The chicken mee goreng mamak ($15.50) had a hint of chilli but I could have had a stronger dose. It wasn’t too salty and had a good portion of chicken mixed with potato, bean sprouts, spring onion and fried onion. A wedge of lime squeezed over the top gave it a nice balance.
The char kway teow ($16.50) had been generously coated in soy without being too salty with plenty of prawn, chicken and fish cake tossed throughout. It had so much flavour and we were both really happy with the dish. This is something I’d definitely order again.
Both plates had decent portions, good flavour and a nice balance of vegetables and meat. Service was quick considering the lunch time rush. Staff are happy to receive feedback on how they can improve. I’d definitely go back for more curry chicken and to try some of the other dishes. Better go in early to secure a table.
