J and I wandered over to Coconine at the Kingston Foreshore for some curry and were pleased to see some $12 and $15 lunch specials available all weekend. The $12 specials included green chicken curry, biryani rice with chicken, pad thai, pad see ew and more, while the $15 specials had seafood dishes and lamb massaman. We both decided on the $15 lunch specials which came out super quick.
I had planned to order a beef massaman, but the $15 lamb massaman with rice was too good to pass up. I was really happy with the generous portion size where I got lots of large chunks of lamb, potato and fried shallots. The curry was hearty and rich in flavour, though the lamb could have been more tender. I wondered if I could have switched the steamed rice to coconut rice, which I might ask for next time. I didn’t have that guilt of being overly full trying to finish off a curry and still felt very satisfied.
J ordered the seafood stir fry ($15) which came with two prawns, squid, plenty of vegetables and rice. Though some more variety of seafood would have been appreciated, the plate was piled up high and scraped clean at the end.
The atmosphere was calm with no rush to leave. It is really nice to be by the water. Now that I’ve had my massaman fix, I wouldn’t mind going back for the $12 green curry and rice special. Good value especially for the Foreshore. Staff are pleasant and generally keep to themselves. It didn’t take long for our menus and bottle of water to arrive, nor our orders taken. And we were both impressed with how quick our lunch specials took to arrive.
