Breakfast @ The Duxton

*I was kindly invited to dine courtesy of The Duxton, however all opinions are my own.

The Duxton in Oโ€™Connor recently introduced its weekend breakfast service, and we were invited to check them out. With so many new hipster places popping up around town, The Duxton wanted to focus on the breakfast classics with big portions. There is an option for everyone with healthy dishes such as The Greens bowl, something naughty like the buttermilk pancakes, and the good old big breakfast The Breakfast Massive.

The Duxton breakfast

We tried the breakfast burrito (usually $18), stuffed with scrambled eggs, avocado salsa, re-fried beans, pulled pork, cheese, tater tots and sour cream. The burrito was filled to the brim and it was so tasty! All the ingredients worked so well together and there were good portions of everything. I loved the tender pulled pork. I thought there would be whole tater tots stuffed in the burrito, but these were crushed so that it was easier to eat. We were both surprised and very happy with the dish. Iโ€™d say itโ€™s a pretty good hangover cure too.

The Greens bowl came with two poached eggs, avocado salsa, broccolini, edamame, pearl barley, dukkah and sourdough (usually $22). It was the most impressive looking of all our dishes. One thing that deters me from ordering salad in winter, is that itโ€™s too cold. This salad was served warm and we both loved the mixture of textures in the bowl – crunchy edamame and broccolini against the soft but firm barley, and the soft gooey eggs mixed in. J sneakily ordered sides of bacon and mushrooms to the dish (extra $4 per item) too and we loved the thick cuts of bacon. It was one massive bowl and he couldn’t finish it.

I also wanted to try the chia seed pudding with fresh strawberries, raspberries and shredded coconut (usually $16). The raspberries were more of a raspberry puree which was really needed to provide a balance in flavour and zing to the dish. I mixed it throughout the pudding.ย  Iโ€™m not sure if I could sit down and just eat a whole chia pudding for breakfast. After quarter of the way though, Iโ€™d kind of had enough. But again, very big portion!

The Duxton has plenty of seating inside and outside. We even checked out The Loft upstairs which has so many function rooms that can be booked. We will definitely be going back for more breakfast โ€“ I want to give those pancakes a go and the breakfast burger! The kitchen is open so you can watch what the chefs get up to and ogle the food on the pass like I did.

The Duxton is open for breakfast both Saturday and Sunday from 9am to noon. Credit card surcharge, and Sunday 10% surcharges apply.
