I am collaborating with Hello Fresh, a fresh food delivery service where I get to pick the meals I want from the website or app, and the majority of ingredients are delivered to me to prepare and cook myself.
What I love
- For my family, given my partner and I both work and have a little one, this does give us some extra meal options so that it’s not the same boring thing each week.
- Delivery was between 7-9am and was on our door step – It was great to put the box inside before leaving work. If you can’t do that, there’s ice packs inside which keeps it cold all day.
- You can ‘skip’ a week or multiple weeks – great if you know you’re going away or if you just need a pause.
- Viewing the next week’s menu and seeing photos of the meals helps. It’s also rather fun to select meals.
- It’s a good option if you still like to prepare and cook meals, but don’t have much time to shop in store or just need a refresh of dinner ideas.
What I don’t like as much
- For our beef with caramelised onion sandos and sweet potato fries meal, the sweet potato was substituted with normal potato without any prior warning.
- Some of the meats expire within a few days, so you really need to cook the meal within a couple of days or freeze it.
Tips
- Check the cooking card – you will need staple items from your pantry. One recipe needed balsamic vinegar which we didn’t have any of!
- I recommend starting with 3 meals a week and see how you go.
