Indian Dining Club

Note: I was invited to dine in at Indian Dining Club however all opinions are my own.

Indian Dining Club is located in Belconnen, right on the water’s edge with outdoor tables on the deck so I can imagine nice summery evenings with delicious food. There’s an elegance to the décor with plush carpet, comfy plush chairs and lots of space.

For the entrees, we try the fish tikka ($17.50) which arrives on a sizzling hot plate. It smells amazing and tastes even better. The fish is perfectly cooked and so soft, in a superb (mustardy?) marinade. There’s a little bit of heat to it in terms of spiciness too.

The samosa chaat ($11.90) is basically crushed up samosas topped with layers of tamarind chutney and yoghurt sauce. This isn’t for me and I think I’d just prefer a regular samosa minus all the sauce.

I ask the waitress for her recommendation on an entrée, and she mentions the Veg Manchurian ($15.90) is their most popular entrée so I order that too. Turns out, they are almost like mini zucchini balls in a wonderful sweet and sour tamarind sauce. We all agree this is a must try dish and we would order it again.

For the mains, we order the usual staples of butter chicken ($21.90), lamb korma ($24.50) and a goat curry ($24.90). Honestly, there are no complaints from anyone. The Punjabi-style goat curry is the favourite main of the night – it tastes more like a curry (while the other two are quite sweet) with so many different layers of flavours and spices. Another must order dish.

To go with the mains, I order both plain ($4) and garlic naan ($5) which are sizeable portions. I’m so glad we didn’t get any rice.

I can never resist dessert, so I try the dessert platter with pistachio kulfi, moong dal halwa and galub jamun. Apart from the galub jamun, I love the moong dal halwa. It’s basically sweet crushed moong lentils cooked with sugar, milk and other spices. It is quite sugary and rich so the small portion is more than enough for me. I grew up with Asian bean and lentil type desserts so this is a nice treat for me. Others at the table did not appreciate it as much!

Overall we have no complaints about dinner at Indian Dining Club. In addition to Indian food, looks like they also do pizzas and pizza combo deals if you prefer. Seems like it will be a very nice, large and spacious spot for Belconnen locals – big enough for parties and family dinners. We took our toddler who seemed happy enough indoors (for a little while anyway).
