Brunch @ Bunny Beans Cafe

Note: My friend and I were provided with a complimentary brunch at Bunny Beans, however all opinions are my own.

Last year, my friend told me about Bunny Beans Cafe at the local Kippax shops. I had meaning to go try it but I was either busy with other things (and heavily pregnant) or eating somewhere else and didn’t have the time.

I finally managed to dine in with the same friend on a recent Saturday morning. The signage for the cafe is written largely on the building so you can’t miss it.

The menu ticks all the boxes with plenty of savoury and sweet options. Being a sweet-tooth, I sometimes (most of the time) am disappointed when there is only one sweet item on the menu. At Bunny Beans, there’s a pancake, waffle and French toast as some of the sweet options. Savoury-wise, there are the typical dishes like eggs benedict, bacon and egg roll, smashed avo etc. For the vegans, there’s also vegan toast. There are 3 dishes on the kids menu all $8.

I loved my mocha – great balance of coffee and chocolate, while my friend had a flat white.

The owner recommended I try the French Toast ($14) which he makes using a pound cake. I didn’t see that you could add on vanilla ice cream (extra $2.50) but that’s an option too. The French Toast tastes a little like orange (probably from an orange pound cake) giving it a subtle zesty taste and is crisped up at the edges before being covered in cinnamon sugar. It reminded me of an orange cinnamon doughnut. The dish comes with citrus yoghurt, orange, caramel and almond flakes. I liked this more unique version of French toast.

My friend ordered one of the specials advertised on the chalkboard, called ‘Beet around the Bush’, with beetroot ricotta, avocado, broccolini, sourdough and poached eggs. This looked wonderfully healthy, and a generous portion provided which she enjoyed.

The owner is wanting to start introducing more unique dishes, like this recent post of fried chicken and waffles.

Overall, a very decently priced local brunch spot. I believe matcha lattes have recently been introduced on the menu since my visit. Good menu, good coffee and a family-friendly cafe. Worth a visit if you’re around the area!

I went here recently with my children. The kids menu had 3 options – all not healthy. The kids chicken nuggets options was a mix of frozen crumbed and tempura nuggets. They took more than 30 minutes to bring out the kids items and it wasn’t a busy time.

Oh that’s disappointing. Did you give them the feedback?
