Three Mills Bakery has its range of breads and pastries in some supermarkets (Ainslie IGA), cafes across Canberra, and at the farmers market.
Covidlife has meant a shift in the business operating models of all in the hospitality industry. One change that I’m really pleased about, and hope stays after this is all over, is the Three Mills’ bake-at-home range.
The bake-at-home range has been advertised across social media and I really wanted to try it, because who doesn’t love the smell of freshly baked goods especially when it’s in your own home?
The bakery at Majura Park isn’t too far from home so we got into the car and drove there early in the morning. There were already 2 people in the queue, standing on the allocated social-distancing dots on the floor and we queued up.
The chalkboard listed the bake-at-home goods:
- Plain croissants (4 pack for $15)
- Chocolate croissant (4 pack for $15)
- Cinnamon Escargots (4 pack for $15)
- Sausage rolls (4 pack for $20) in various flavours
It was leading up to Easter so the Three Mills’ hot cross buns were available too. I ordered two hot cross buns (one each) for breakfast that morning, a 4 pack of bake-at-home plain croissants, and a twice cooked chocolate honeycomb croissant that was in the display cabinet because it looked amazing!
Mr FPJ was hesitant at our purchase of the bake-at-home products – why pay for something we’d have to bake ourselves? He was soon converted.
The bake-at-home treats are frozen but all come with a card listing the easy instructions. The croissants need to be taken out of the freezer the night before and covered with a tea towel to prove overnight.
In the morning, they double in size and look nice and plump. Then beat an egg, and lightly wash it over the top of the pastries before popping into the oven for 20-25 minutes.
The home will soon smell like a bakery. And the end product looks exactly like something straight out of a cafe! Best of all, we’re still in our pyjamas and can eat it warm and straight out of the oven.
Cross-section shot of the twice baked croissant filled with chocolate and crunchy chunks of honeycomb. Yum!
We soon went back and this time I ordered the 4-pack of chocolate croissants.
The chocolate croissants are just as easy and you can really distinguish the flakey layers in the pastry.
We’re yet to the try bake-at-home escargots and sausage rolls, but that will be next. I believe Three Mills have added family-sized pies to the bake-at-home menu too.
There’s also a brunch box and a Mother’s Day gift box available.
Orders can easily be made online on the website and free home delivery is provided across Canberra for orders over $40.
Hoping this bake-at-home range is here to stay!
