A friend and I headed to Selliโs in Garema Place in Canberra city for lunch. I had walked past a few weeks earlier and was impressed with the reasonable prices. Selliโs offers burgers, sandwiches, toasties, hot dogs and milkshakes as well as a breakfast menu with various bagels. The dessertsย include pecan pie, key lime pie and New York cheesecake. After ordering and paying for our meals at the counter, we sat down at one of the outdoor tables.
My Smash Burger ($10) looked fantastic with the two slices of cheddar cheese melted over the two (yes two) beef patties which were juicy and well-seasoned. The lettuce was crispy and the tomatoes fresh and not too soggy. The burger overall was a decent size and held together well. I really couldnโt complain. I ordered a side of chips ($6) to share which were thin, crunchy and dusted with smoked salt (thought I couldn’t really taste the smokiness) and served with sriracha mayo.
I was surprised to see matcha milkshake on the menu and had to try it out. Unfortunately it was quite disappointing and I couldnโt taste any matcha in the shake apart from the powder on top. The shake didnโt even look green and just tasted like vanilla. I gave them some feedback to add more matcha โ a scoop or two of matcha ice cream would do the trick.
My friend ordered the Fricken Chicken fried chicken burger ($10) which came with quite a large piece of chicken, and also commented on it’s good value for money.
Improvements need to be made to the matcha milkshake, but overall reasonable prices and portions, friendly staff and it didnโt take long for the food to arrive. I’m keen to try some of their sandwiches and toasties like the Cubano and the Reuben. For you vegans out there, there’s a vegan burger made with BBQ pulled jackfruit. I would have purchased a slice of pecan pie for dessert but I was too full.
