Last month, along with my friend Michelle (of HerCanberra), we headed to a truffle luncheon at Otis who were offering 3 courses at $58 per person. It was a Saturday and there weren’t that many people dining in, so our food arrived reasonably quickly.
Course 1 – truffled house made tagliatelle with parmesan. This was such a fabulous dish. The tagliatelle was freshly made and cooked beautifully. The creamy truffle sauce had the perfect blend of cream and cheese, without being overly gluggy, while still rich in flavour and truffle. The best truffle pasta dish I’ve had so far this season. I wanted seconds!
Course 2 – organic chicken with potato, truffle butter and truffle jus. I was surprised to see such a generous portion of chicken provided. It was succulent and oh-so juicy sitting on a bed of creamy potato mash.
The best part was yet to come!
We each got one whole small gravy boat full of truffle jus poured onto the chicken. And we finished the entire plate! It had a wonderful thickness, lots of flavour and wasn’t too rich. It was delicious and I just loved everything about it.
Course 3 – truffle mandarin with truffled cream, honeycomb and mandarin. I wasn’t a huge fan of the dessert as I usually avoid desserts made up of mainly cream. In saying that, this was a very light dessert and balanced well with the bittersweet honeycomb matched with the sweet truffle cream.
We got a few extras thrown in – the truffle mini magnums were a nice surprise and filled with house made vanilla bean ice cream.
We also got some truffled brie with crackers which we couldn’t finish but took home.
I’m not sure if Otis is still offering their 3 course truffle luncheon, but they are still advertising a 4 course truffle dinner for $79, available Tuesday to Friday. Truffle season is ending so better get in quick!
