I found Chu Bakery in Perth via instagram and put it on my list of places to check out during my visit. The bakery is located on a corner in kind of the middle of no where. There are no other shops around it giving it a nice neighbourhood bakery feel. The store is tiny with only one or two stools by the big window looking out onto the street and a few stools outside. It was one of those 40 degree days an we were there for take away desserts.
Chu Bakery has a selection of doughnuts – chocolate, raspberry jam and even chilli!, almond croissants and other sweet pastries.
I was there mainly for the choux pastries. These Chu Puffs came in three flavours – raspberry and lychee, matcha and yuzu, and salted caramel. I chose the first two flavours to take away.
These little choux pastries ($5.50 each) were so adorable!
The raspberry and lychee puff was filled with a raspberry and cream chantilly and lychee jelly. The cream was light and delicious. My favourite was the jelly which was bursting with lychee flavour.
The matcha and yuzu puff was filed with matcha chantilly and a yuzu jelly. The citrusy sour yuzu helped complement the slightly bitter matcha flavour.
My sister also chose the strawberries and cream tart, and picked the almond croissant for mum who absolutely loves them. I forgot to take note of the prices of these two pastries. The cream on the tart was incredibly light which made it easy to get through as there was no richness. The almond croissant was flakey and filled with a good portion of almond filling inside. Very moreish!
Chu Bakery is located on William Street in Highgate, Perth WA. Staff are friendly and are happy for you to take photos inside the bakery of their goodies. The sweet treats are delicious and reasonably priced.
