Dream Cuisine in Fyshwick expanded (earlier this year?) taking over the shop that was next door. This means there is a lot more space to sit down and enjoy the wonderful macarons, tarts and coffee that Dream Cuisine produces. Brunch was on hiatus for a few months (their chef had a skiing accident!). However, Saturday brunch is back!
There’s some seating outside under the window awnings. I love the brightly coloured seats that scream out fun and cheerful.
The whole cafe has been renovated to fit into the new space as I noticed a few pieces of the old fit out had shifted. The coffee machine now sits proudly on the counter in the front half of the cafe. The display of macarons, croissants and tarts (what used to be at the front) is now in its own separate counter towards the back.
Dream Cuisine macarons are $3 each and there are lots of yummy flavours to choose from – salted caramel, pistachio, double choc, lavender and honey, and more.
My soy mocha (I think around the $4 mark) came in a big mug and was wonderfully creamy.
For brunch, I indulged in the ricotta hotcakes ($15) with poached rhubarb. This was quite a tall stack of thick hotcakes and I had the sudden fear that the hotcakes would be very dense. But I was proved wrong. These were the fluffiest and lightest hotcakes I’ve had in a long time. Absolutely heavenly! The ricotta mousse on top had been whipped until it was airily light. The sweet rhubarb syrup was fabulous (though I do have a major sweet tooth) and I loved mopping up the hotcakes in it. Recommended if you like sweet hotcakes and rhubarb.
I visited Dream Cuisine around Halloween, so I couldn’t go past trying the special Halloween ‘spooky’ macarons in orange or double choc flavours ($3.50 each). I chose the orange macaron which was served on its own plate. Soft, sweet and full of orange flavour. Yum.
I’d actually stopped by Dream Cuisine a few months earlier for brunch but this was during the brunch hiatus. Slightly devastated, I settled for a home made pork and veal sausage roll instead (can’t remember the price). It looked interesting as there was so much puff pastry. Good decision. There were all sorts of herbs and spices in the pork and veal mince. I could really tell that it was home made. Considering I wasn’t even in the mood for a sausage roll, this must’ve been really good! There was some kind of sweet chutney on the side which was also delicious teamed with the sausage roll.
Since my first post about Dream Cuisine last year, service has greatly improved. The menu is short and simple with croissants, egg and bacon roll, and eggs florentine. The lunch menu starts at 12 noon and includes items such as the Dream Burger, beef and beer pie and the croque monsieur.
