A friend showed me a photo of this amazing looking dessert at C Dine Bar, so I headed there for a quick lunch and dessert one sunny day. I hadn’t had a proper meal at C Dine since September last year, with the exception of its Buck-a-shuck Fridays or $1 oysters (now replaced with 1kg of wing dings for $10, new blog post about that coming soon). I noticed lots of new items on the menu and decided to order the pulled pork baguette ($18) which came with chipotle and mustard coleslaw and french fries. This was one impressive beast when it came out.
The fries were disappointing – a little soggy and zero salt on top.
I was happy that there was quite a lot of warm soft pulled pork included. The chipotle and mustard added a wonderful spiciness to the meal. The coleslaw was crunchy and added an extra texture. Now onto the bread. The baguette was delicious! When I asked the waitress where the bread came from, she wasn’t sure and went in to ask, only never to return. My second attempt at asking another waiter yielded some results. The baguette comes from A. Baker in New Acton and is a half sourdough / half grain baked good. I loved the bread, partly because some of the pork juices had soaked into the bread making it extra tasty. But I know I’d enjoy it on its own too. I tried to eat one half of the bread as I wanted dessert too. I was really happy with this meal.
The ‘Cinema’ was ordered ($16) consisting of waffle cones, popcorn ice cream, chocolate soil, cola puree, raspberry meringue, popping candy, fairy floss and coconut marshmallow. I found the presentation to be charming and whimsical. It does remind me of being at the cinema. I didn’t know where to start! So many little things to try. The popcorn ice cream was thick and delicious – it was also melting fast. I had the popping candy sensation with the ice cream before I moved onto the unsalted popcorn. The popcorn was the only neutral tasting element on the plate which worked well with all the other items. I couldn’t taste the coconutiness of the marshmallow as it was sugary sweet, especially with the fairy floss on top. The little meringues were soft and melted in my mouth. The puree did taste like cola minus the fizz.
Sugar overload but I enjoyed it. And you can always share with a friend.
I enjoyed both the pulled pork baguette and dessert, and could easily order both again. Sitting outside on a sunny day with views of the lake is a bonus.
