Some friends and I wanted to try out Chatterbox in Belconnen and made it there one Saturday morning. There are bright yellow banners displayed outside so you can’t miss it. When I got there, all outdoor tables were taken. Must be a popular spot with the locals.
I love the wall of potted plants inside – it separates the front counter area from the gorgeous long tiled communal table.
Our waitress took our drinks order as soon as everyone had arrived and I was impressed with how quickly the coffees came out. I enjoyed my soy mocha (don’t quite remember how much this was) and it came out in a huge cup with a mini biscuit placed next to it.
Fresh juice comes in a cute bright yellow cup.
It wasn’t hard to decide what I wanted – as soon as I read potato stack with poached eggs and salmon ($14.50), I was sold. The whole thing really is a massive stack. One of the poached eggs hiding under a potato rosti had broken when the dish came out so the yolk had spread onto the plate. I don’t know how it could not break considering the weight of the rosti and the other egg on top. I wasn’t fussed either way.
Everyone who ordered the rosti all absolutely loved it – two thick rosti patties which were crispy on the outside, yet filled with soft fluffy mashed potato and chives inside. One of the best rosti I’ve ever had in Canberra. I thought the fetta and salmon added just the right amount of saltiness to the dish. I’d come back for more!
Food porn of friends’ dishes

Chatterbox baked eggs with spiced mince lamb ($15) – my friend mentioned this was a little dry but with heaps of lamb mince
I enjoyed my breakfast (both food and coffee) and I’m happy with the cheap prices. There’s a relaxed atmosphere here, though it can get a little noisy from people happily chatting over brunch.
Chatterbox is located on the corner of Cameron Avenue and Chandler Street in Belconnen. Open both Saturday and Sunday for brunch 🙂

May 2, 2014 at 2:45 pm (11 years ago)We went here after I googled ‘best smashed avocado in Canberra’ and it was mentioned in an article on people’s favourite breakfasts in Canberra. I ordered the smashed avo with a rosti and absolutely LOVED it. The fetta was amazing and those rostis are so, so good. We were also full allll day. The service was really friendly too!
