Brunch @ The Old Crow – Perth

A friend and I had brunch at The Old Crow in Northbridge, just a few doors down from Tuck Shop Cafe. We went in around 10am on a Sunday morning and not really knowing how the place worked, we waited around for service but didn’t get any, so we wandered inside. A waitress mentioned there were no tables for 2 at that time, but a nearby diner overheard and mentioned they were about to leave, so we gratefully took their seats at a large communal table. Menus and cold water were provided. It took a while for our orders to be taken, or to even get noticed. I was a little annoyed that orders were taken from the 2 diners who later joined us at the communal table before us. I had to ask the waiter if we could order next.

I ordered the maple glazed pulled pork with hotcakes, fried egg and apple ($20). The pulled pork was so soft and tasted great with a little bit of sweetness. The grated straws of sweet apple balanced out the heavier items on the plate. The two small hotcakes were perfect with the maple glaze from the pork and not overly saturated with it. The fried egg was overcooked but I was still happy with the dish. There was just enough portion-wise to fill me up nicely without overfilling.

My friend ordered the cowboy eggs, beans and belly bacon ($18). Quite a heavy meal with lots of protein and a huge slice of fatty pork belly.

Our drinks – a very large soy mocha ($4.50) and a flat white ($3).

It seems like The Old Crow is situated in an old renovated home. There’s a small extension at the front of the house that allows a few more tables to be squeezed in. The inside has a cosy dining room feel with a mix of different tables and chairs, polished dark wooden floorboards, a covered up fireplace and simple decor.

I was only able to take a snapshot of one half of the front area.

Though I would have liked more attentive service, I enjoyed breakfast here and would go back to try out lunch or dinner.
