Tanigar Meats at the Kingston Bus Depot Markets have a fridge full of meaty goods – like loin chops, lamb rack, kidney, shanks and an assortment of lamb pies.
There are several types of lamb pies that I’ve come across – original lamb, peas and potato, butter lamb, smokey chilli, Moroccan, Afghani, and pumpkin and spinach. I bought the latter three and tried them over the next few days. These were only $4 each and had been freshly baked and refridgerated.
Iโve never had a pumpkin and spinach pie before. It was different with spices include cumin, onion, turmeric, curry leaves and mustard seeds mixed into it. Really loved the tiny bits of pumpkin inside yum!
The Afghani was also unique with spices such as cinnamon, chilli and nutmeg. I thought it was a bit dry (compared to the others) as there wasn’t as much gravy. Still satisfying.
To be honest, Iโd buy up all those pies again. Delish! And at $4 each, they are a very reasonable price. Pop them in the oven for 20 or so minutes, or just cheat and microwave them. Iโd get to the Bus Depot Markets early (before midday) as they tend to sell out quickly. You could buy up a few and freeze them too ๐
