Caffe Cherry Beans is located in Westfield Woden near JB Hifi. It can easily be missed since it’s not anywhere near the food court or other dining places. I dropped in for an early breakfast before work.
The layout of the cafe is open with plenty of tables and chairs. They have a decent menu serving various all day breakfast and lunch items. I noticed they sell 100% Arabica coffee, but I didn’t feel like coffee that morning. There is self-serve tap water available to the side of the cafe with plastic cups stacked up for your use.
The Chef’s special written in chalk on the blackboard sold me. Alex’s Breakfast of pesto, risoni, parmesan, sauteed garlic, rocket salad, mushroom and poached egg on sourdough for $9.90. Sounded healthy and yummy.
And it was delicious! I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be so good. The pesto risoni was something different and I haven’t really seen this on a brunch menu with eggs before. It was slightly sour, perhaps mixed in with lemon oil but I think it was a brilliant move to give a little contrast to the dish. The mushrooms were tasty, egg perfectly poached and runny when I split it, rocket was fresh with a bit of oil to dress it, and the sliced capsicum gave the dish some bright colour. The parmesan was shaved in little pieces and sprinkled on top. Everything worked really well together.
The portion was average – not too big but not too small, just right to fill me up and start my day. I was very happy and satisfied with this yummy meal (and got change from a $10 note)
Service was friendly and the dining area is clean with every table wiped down. There’s a little kids playground area out the front of the cafe, so it may get loud with children running around and screaming around lunch time.
Lunch options include beer battered fish and chips, a range of melts on Turkish bread, salads, burgers, sandwiches and chicken parmigiana. Lunch prices range between $7.50 to $16.50. I wouldn’t mind heading back for a parma!
