I had to write a blog about Ricardo‘s Cafe. I visited this place about a year ago after hearing of Ricardo’s from several people for its cakes and pastries but since it’s located in Jamison, and therefore quite far from me, I’d just never had a reason to drive by and visit. I had a craving for cake one day, and decided I’d finally drive over and see what all the hype was about.
As soon as I walked in, I noticed it was packed with people, every single table taken. There was also a queue to the cashier to place orders. I headed towards the display cabinet of cakes and WOW so much to choose from!
Here were my choices clockwise from left to right – the ‘swan’ (basically a profiterole with cream inside), mango cheesecake with crumble inside, tiramisu eclair, and gold mousse.
The mango cheesecake was awesome – bits of mango pulp and crumble inside as shown below. I have no idea how they would make this. The tiramisu eclair was yum, there was even some mousse in the little profiterole on top. The gold mousse was probably my favourite – layers of chocolate mousse, sponge and I recall a hint of jam as well, with sprinkled nuts around it and sprayed in gold. So good!
Well worth the drive! The result of the second time I went back to Ricardo’s:
Clockwise from left, centre and right – orange and almond, apple eclair, apple cheesecake, caramel mousse with hazelnut praline and salted caramel centre, and the ‘pineapple’ with meringue and pineapple marshmallow.
I really like this place – they do amazing little cakes for around $6-$9 each which isn’t that pricey. They also change up the cakes each week and introduce new cakes. Most cakes are gluten free and clearly marked which is a bonus. Ricardo’s Facebook page provides updates of new cakes and limited edition items. Warning: It also has lots of photos of cakes and the other food on their menu.
