Lunch @ Flint in the Vines

I decided to head out of Canberra to Murrumbateman for lunch on a nice Summer’s day. Flint in the Vines has always been on my food bucket list and it was perfect weather for a nice drive out. The restaurant is set in the Shaw Vineyards and has lovely views if you can get a table outside.

There is also plenty of seating inside and we got a little table by the window.

Service was friendly and it didn’t take long for the meals to come out. My friend ordered the Dukkah Chicken. I had to look up what dukkah was – apparently an Egyptian dry mix of roasted nuts, seeds and spices finely blended together. This dish used Australian herbs/spice seasoning sprinkled on top which gave the chicken great flavour. Chicken was slightly dry but it was still a really great dish!

I ordered the sirloin fillet with herb better. This was cooked exactly how I’d asked for it to be cooked – medium well. And the chips were nice and crunchy.

We were presented with the dessert menus and I can never resist dessert!

I chose the frozen chocolate souffle as my dessert. It was made up of a thick chocolately/salted caramel mousse, with salted caramel popcorn brittle. Thick and rich but fluffy at the same time. This was a big serve (could’ve fed 2 people) and I was stuffed but couldn’t seem to stop eating. The pomegranate and salted caramel went well with the chocolate to counter balance the sweetness. I polished off all the dessert.

My friend ordered a hot chocolate – served with a cup of hot frothy milk and popsicle with chocolate on the end to be stirred into the milk. Charming idea. They also sell the individual chocolate popsicles in the shop at the front of the restaurant.

If you’re looking to head out of Canberra for a bit, I’d recommend stopping in at Flint in the Vines. A) there is free wine tasting at the front of the restaurant. B) Good portions of food at decent prices and a relaxed atmosphere. C) Gluten free options available on the menu. D) You can then head to the other wineries around Murrumbateman.
