During a weekend in Sydney, I headed to N2 Extreme Gelato to try their gelato made right in front of you with liquid nitrogen. The store had a laboratory feel to it with glass beakers filled with ingredients displayed everywhere.
The flavours available are written up on the blackboard. Lots of weird and interesting flavours. I chose the Walrus Delight – rose gelato with cocoa nibs and pistachio.
I enjoyed watching the staff in their white lab coats pouring the ingredients into the mixer and then pouring in the liquid nitrogen to make the gelato. It didn’t take long.
One scoop of gelato is $6 – a tad pricey. But it is a novelty and provides a bit of a show. The Walrus Delight was okay but nothing spectacular. Sitting down at a table, I noticed another board against the wall with all the previous flavours of gelato that had been concocted in the lab. There were so many! I was quite impressed with that and the wacky names given. A pretty cool concept.
