Wildflour is located in the middle of Fyshwick (taking over from what was Remy’s Bakery), an artisan bakery and cafe. It looks exactly the same though the display cabinet is a lot more appealing with a big range of cakes and tarts as well as hot pies. But it’s Wildflour’s croissant and doughnut stand that catches my eye.

I can’t resist trying the French toast ($18), topped with Nutella ice cream, hazelnut praline, caramelised banana and salted dulce de leche. My eyes nearly bulge out of my head as the dish is placed in front of me. There are three giant pieces of French toast, two massive scoops of ice cream, hazelnuts and praline, what looks like peanut brittle, an entire banana sliced and carefully caramelised, plenty of Nutella and salted dulce de leche drizzled across the dish. This is French toast heaven for me. The menu does state Nutella ice cream, but it also had vanilla and nut mixed into it. It’s sweet even with the salted dulce de leche, so definitely one for the sweet-tooth people out there. And no I didn’t finish it off.

On another occasion, I tried the shakshuka ($18) with baked free range eggs, spicy red pepper sauce, chorizo, fetta and house made flat bread. Another awesome dish. The chorizo was presented without the casing, so that it was more of a mince tossed throughout the pan. And there was plenty of it. Both egg yolks were oozy and it was lovely to eat this with the warm house made flatbread. Enjoyable with substance in the sauce.

I also tried a hot tipple-free apple cider ($8) which was a little expensive for a small cup, and this amazing apple crumble doughnut stuffed with cinnamon-infused cream inside and topped with icing and actual apple crumble.

Wildflour seems like a great family-friendly cafe in the middle of Fyshwick. There’s a play area for the kids out the front as well as a kids menu. I’ve liked my two breakfast options so far, as well as the range of freshly baked pastries that can be purchased. I do plan on going back!
