A group of us set out for Thredbo in the early morning for a weekend of summer activities. On the drive there, we stopped at the Wild Brumby Distillery for brunch. On that warm morning, the first thing I wanted was a cold drink, so I ordered freshly squeezed orange juice. It came out in a small tumbler glass and only half-filled. I couldn’t help but wonder, ‘where’s the rest of it?’ And felt ripped off. Can’t remember what I paid for it, but it was probably around the $4 mark.
We got there at 11am (could’ve waited half an hour for the lunch menu to commence but we didn’t want to waste time). I ordered the Breakfast Plate ($14) – scrambled eggs, bacon, tomato, spinach on toast. The eggs were a bit sticky but edible. This was a nice but pretty average dish. I was happy with the price though – you can’t really get this in Canberra for less than that!

The centrepiece of the cafe is this awesome looking polished brass distilling machine.
They also sell various flavoured Wild Brumby schnapps and offer taste testing.
Breakfast was okay and cheap but not good enough for me to go back. However, the lunch menu appeals to me a lot more so I might try that out the next time I go past Jindabyne.
