During my weekend in Sydney, I was strolling through Potts Point in the morning when I noticed a rather busy cafe on Challis Street with outdoor diners enjoying the sunshine. La Buvette is also rated quite highly on Urbanspoon so I decided to pop in for breakfast the following morning.
We scored a table outside under some shade of the outdoor umbrellas to people-watch. I ordered the Vegan Brekky ($15) with mushrooms, spinach, potato, tomatoes and I added a poached egg. A simple dish but I loved it! The mushrooms were large and juicy, perfectly cooked poached egg, the potatoes were yummy and it wasn’t too oily. The thick pieces of toast also tasted great. I could easily order this dish again.
Not noticing the fresh juices or frappes, I asked for my usual soy mocha. It is probably the best I’ve ever had. It was the PERFECT mocha, and served in a tall glass with a caramelised biscuit. Loved it!
My partner ordered the Croque Madam ($14.50) – ham, dijon, pan-fried and baked brioche with a fried egg on top. Not what he was expecting when it came out. The dijon gave it a nice sourness in contrast to the sweet brioche. Other than that, it was really just a toasted sandwich.
Our wait staff on both mornings were very friendly and always had a smile. I enjoyed sitting outside watching people stroll by with their dogs or going for a run. There is a really nice, relaxed vibe – or maybe that was because it was a long weekend. I loved the mochas they make here, and their frappes and fruit juices are freshly made. If I’m ever in Potts Point again, I’d go back to La Buvette and perhaps try out their pancakes next time ;P
