My sister and I had lunch at Neho Asian Tapas in Victoria Park, Perth. I had heard some good reviews about it and was keen to check it out. Seeing as it was a Friday lunch, we had no problems getting a table or finding a parking spot.

I loved the quirky signs of Asian rules/instructions translated into English like ‘Avoid rude and unreasonable chicken’, and ‘Do not eat in the restaurant of non-wheat food or drink more than music’.

The modern Asian menu of mainly Korean/Malaysian dishes consisted of small plates, larger plates, salads and dessert. We ordered the karancini ($12), aka Korean arancini, which came with kimchi, spam, gochujang mayo and melted cheese. These were just divine. The outer layer was wonderfully crispy while the inside of the balls oozed with melted cheese. There was a little bit of heat to the karancini and Korean red pepper mayo but not enough to burn your mouth. I couldn’t really taste much spam as these were very tiny pieces. The kimchi sat on the bottom of the bowl and gave me an extra hit of spice. Such a great starter dish!

My sister picked the kerabu quail ($17) with corn and cucumber kerabu (salad). The quail had been cooked until crispy but the meat remained tender. Too bad it’s such a small bird. The kerabu salad had a hint of chilli and lots of flavour from all the herbs. Squeezing a wedge of lime over everything gave that nice extra acidity to the dish.

We shared one big plate of the Oolong tea smoked duck breast ($30) with scallion egg crepes, pickled cucumber and plum hoisin sauce. There were 6 thin egg crepes on the plate and we placed each element inside and rolled it up sang choi bao style. Although I would have liked a less well-cooked duck, the meat had a distinct smokey taste and was nice and plump. We were both happy with this dish.

Neho Asian Tapas have three items on the dessert menu, and if you can’t choose, there’s a tasting platter of all three! We had plans to go elsewhere for dessert, but here’s an instagram shot of the dessert trio. I’d love to try the pandacotta (pandan pannacotta) next time.

Neho Asian Tapas can be found at 249 Albany Highway in Victoria Park. Open Sunday, Tuesday to Thursday for dinner, and Friday and Saturday for both lunch and dinner.
