Some friends and I had breakfast at Little Oink in Cook one weekend. It had been about 2 years since I last dined at Little Oink, and I was glad to see it going strong with plenty of locals supporting the cafe. Luckily we had reserved a table as the place was packed as well as the constant flow of take away coffee drinkers. I started off with a raspberry, mint and lime frappe ($7) which was thick and full of berry goodness.

My mission a-cornplished ($17) consisted of corn and haloumi fritters with avocado salsa, a poached egg, chilli and lime aioli, and watercress. I loved the fritters which had a lovely crisp outside, a soft and slightly cheesy filling, and small bursts of juices from the corn kernels. The salsa was fresh and the egg perfectly poached. The aioli didn’t have much heat to it but it did add some zest to the dish. A yummy small light breakfast.

Much food envy was had with my friend’s parlez vous francais toast? ($17) – brioche French toast with toasted coconut mascarpone, passionfruit coulis and candied pineapple. How pretty does it look?

Another friend ordered the get in my pork belly ($19) – slow roasted pork belly, tomato, hashbrown, a fried egg and apple relish. He was pleased with the thick chunk of pork belly and crispy crackling provided.

The a hole lox-a-love ($17) was a toasted cream cheese bagel with onion, dill, baby capers and smoked salmon ($17). One of my favourite types of bagels!

The quirky menu has enough variety to please most with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options available. I love the cute names given to each dish. Service was fast with our coffee/drink orders being taken as soon as we sat down and arriving not long after. Our dishes also arrived quickly. There aren’t many tables available so I recommend making a reservation. Little Oink is kid-friendly with a small kid’s play area set up inside.

Little Oink is at 22 Cook Place at the Cook shops. Open seven days a week for breakfast and lunch. I believe the cafe recently opened for dinner on some nights as well but best to check with the cafe.
