With gorgeous Indian ocean views, Bib & Tucker can be found in North Fremantle near the Fremantle Surf Life Saving Club. A sign by the entrance states to wait to be seated, and it wasn’t long before my sister and I were escorted inside. Even though it was only a Friday morning, all the outdoor tables overlooking the ocean were taken but we managed to get a good seat inside near the window.

Bib & Tucker offers modern Australian cuisine with a vegan and vegetarian friendly menu where products sourced locally. For meat lovers, the rotisserie grill slowly cooks meats over an open fire. There are cold pressed juices, cold drip coffees, and wine and other booze available.

I like the casual hipster fit out inside with the open floor planning including open kitchen, large floor to ceiling glass doors that look out onto the ocean, key beachy colour themes and succulents.

We had walked from the train station and it was a warm morning, so we felt like something cold to drink. We both ordered the Red Passion cold pressed juice ($8.50) of watermelon, strawberry and apple. It tasted a lot like watermelon with only a bit of strawberry pulp at the bottom. Very light and sweet. I would definitely order more as I finished mine far too easily.

I ordered something different to what I would usually order for brunch – the Huevos Rancheros ($26) with smashed beans, roast tomato and chipotle salsa, eggs, tortillas, avocado, coriander, feta and crispy chorizo. This wasn’t the dish that I had in mind even though the description was pretty accurate. I had expected some slices of crispy chorizo but these were more fried chorizo crisps. Very spicy and made well but not what I had expected. There were so many beans on the plate! I found the dish rather wet and messy. The tortillas were buried underneath everything so they turned soggy quickly. Not my kind of dish but it certainly was filling. I didn’t finish it all and left half of it as it started getting overly rich with bean overload.

My sister ordered the breakfast pizza ($21) of charred bacon, 2 eggs, mushroom, spinach and buffalo mozzarella. Made fresh and baked in the pizza oven, we loved the pizza dough which was soft, easy to chew and not dry.

Staff are dressed in white t-shirts, denim shorts with an apron which suits the laid back beachy vibes. Service is efficient and polite. Our waitress ensured we were happy with our table since all the outdoor tables had been taken, took our drink orders first and gave us enough time to look over the menu before ordering. The food took about 20 to 30 minutes to arrive and I think this was due to having to wait for the breakfast pizza to be baked. Although I didn’t particularly like the Huevos Rancheros, my sister is still raving about the breakfast pizza. Great relaxed atmosphere and wonderful views. If I had more time over on the West coast, I would go back to Bib & Tucker for lunch/dinner.

Bib & Tucker is located at 18 Leighton Beach Boulevard in Fremantle, Western Australia.
