As part of Good Food Month, Silo Bakery in Kingston is holding a 3-course set lunch menu for $38. This offer is available Tuesday to Saturday lunch during the month of October. I was greeted at the door and shown to a table. The set lunch menu was explained to me and includes either a glass of wine, Coopers Pale Ale or sparkling mineral water. Since I don’t drink, I chose the sparkling mineral water.

Silo Bakery Kingston pellegrinoThe entree consisted of Oysters Rockerfeller which is topped with spinach and cheese before being baked. These were still steaming when they came out.

I loved the simple red wine jus – delicious! I’ve never eaten nettle before. To me it tasted a bit like spinach. I was glad for the small portion as dessert was coming next.

Dessert was a clafoutis (a baked French tart with fruit) and I was surprised to see such a huge slice. This clafoutis was topped with pear and cherries, smothered in syrup with a dollop of crème fraîche on the side. I INHALED this dessert. It had been warmed up so the flan-like custardy batter was gooey and warm, and incredibly moorish. Major foodgasm. The thin soft biscuit base was a nice support to the flan-like batter. I’ll definitely be ordering more of these tarts!

Silo Bakery Kingston Good Food Month tartIf you haven’t been to Silo Bakery yet, here’s a shot of some of the tarts (all $6) available that day. Larger tarts are also available but limited, so best to pre-order the larger sizes. A range of breads from $5-7 are available to purchase and are displayed on the back shelf.

Silo Bakery Kingston sandwichesI bought some tarts to take away – the orange brulee (left) and caramelised pear tart (right).

I thought service was great – friendly, prompt with providing clean cutlery and napkins before the start of each course, and knowledgeable about the food on the menu.
