I took an extra day off during one of the long weekends and decided to meet up with my partner for lunch at Parlour Wine Room. This was my first time there. We were greeted by a waiter at the front and were welcome to pick any table we wanted. Stepping inside, you can’t help but feel transported to another era – posh and swanky inside with an old school club feel with dark wooden floorboards, an eclectic mix of upholstered chairs, chaise sofas, and leather couches, and wooden tables in various styles and shapes.

Menus are provided once seated and a choice of water – still, sparkling or tap. The lunch special includes a glass of wine, beer or soft drink for $16. The one page menu provided some tasty items.

After our orders were taken, fresh warm bread arrived at our table with olive oil as well as our drinks. My partner ordered the house red and I had a lemon lime bitter.

Food wise, I ordered the pappardelle with pork belly and sofrito. This was a very generous serving. No pork belly but tender chunks of pulled pork (which I prefer over pork belly anyway). Delicious simple tomato sauce and long ribbons of pasta. There was so much pork that I couldn’t finish it all but my partner was happy to polish it off. Great value and very satisfying.

My partner ordered the lamb shank (our waiter told us this was part of the lunch special that day) and a glass of house red. This was one large shank and my partner enjoyed it.

Overall, I had a great experience at Parlour. No complaints. Service is quick and polite. The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet (for a lunch time period). I love the decor and can see why this is such a popular destination for Friday drinks.

Parlour’s entrance is to the side of the New Acton building (you’ll notice the outdoor seating) otherwise you can enter from inside A. Baker’s restaurant. Parlour Wine Room $16 lunch special

The lunch special is available Tues-Sun between 12-3. Worth trying. They have another cheap deal on the weekend –  2 for 1 tapas on Sundays which I’ll have to try out one day.
