Sometime last year, I bought a Groupon voucher for 6 cannoli from Ciao Cafe & Cakes. I can’t quite remember how much it was but I think it was under the $10 mark (these are usually $4.50 each). Ciao Cafe & Cakes is located in Queanbeyan on Crawford Street. I have noticed and driven past this place many times but have never checked it out, so this was a good opportunity to finally go inside.

I could smell cake as soon as I stepped inside. Yum. There is a huge glass display cabinet with yummy looking cakes inside. The mars bar cheesecake made me drool and I nearly walked out of there with it (even though I didn’t actually need cake for any occasion) but restrained myself. Prices are very reasonable with full sized cakes priced between $24.95 to $37.95. Small cakes are between $21.95 to $26.95, and half cakes are priced between $13.95 to $17.95. Everything is baked on the premises.

Other desserts include pavlova, lemon meringue, apple strudel, macarons, baklava, rumballs, rocky road and cannoli. I was able to select 3 vanilla custard and 3 chocolate cannoli with the deal. These were huge – about the size of one medium sized sausage and smelled so good.

I liked the chocolate cannoli the best. Not too rich and more of a creamy chocolate mousse. The vanilla custard was okay but didn’t really hit the spot. The pastry had gone a little soft but was still nice and flakey on top. I thought this was a great deal and I now have another option to buy birthday cakes from.

Ciao Cafe & Cakes also do a big brekky, burgers, omelettes and both sweet and savoury pancakes. Check out its Facebook page for more pics of birthday cakes etc. It’s open 7 days a week and delivers anywhere in Canberra and Queanbeyan.
