Max Brenner opened up at the Kingston Foreshore a few months ago. The only other Max Brenner location is in Belconnen, quite far from me, so I don’t often get a chance to drop in. The other weekend, I decided to have something chocolatey and popped into the new store.

It was early morning so I didn’t particularly feel like dessert. I chose the milk chocolate ‘suckao’ ($6.50) after asking the guy behind the counter what it was. It sounded fun so I ordered it. Served on a little wooden tray, you get to melt your own chocolate in a little ‘cup’ with a tealight candle underneath. A mini jug of extra milk is also provided.

The spoon acts as a straw so you can stir in the chocolate buttons and drink up. It didn’t take long for the chocolate to melt.

The suckao is definitely a novelty item but it was fun. There’s probably only half a cup of milk provided so you’re basically paying for the presentation and melting your own chocolate. If you want a whole mug of chocolate, I’d recommend getting the normal hot chocolates (there are various flavours) on the menu.

There seems to be plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, and I do like the cranked up air-conditioning inside especially on a hot day. It made me want a hot drink 🙂

I’m glad South-siders now have a Max Brenner!
