I caught up with some friends at Lalla Rookh Bar and Eating House on St Georges Terrace in Perth City. The freshly made pastas sounded appealing, as well as some other items on the menu, so I was happy to try it out.

It’s located underground, and there are stairs leading down from the street corner. I peeped down and saw lots of people sitting down at the outdoor tables for after work drinks and dinner.

A friend and I shared the crocce ($14) – fried ham hock and green pea croquettes. These nice plump looking things only took about 15 minutes to come out to the table. A crunchy outside, warm fluffy potato, and great strong flavours from both the ham hock and peas = a winning combination. I’d gladly order these again.

I love Italian food so I decided on the tagliatelle, free range chicken and vegetable ragu ($26). There was actually quite a lot of pasta there. The chicken and vegetables had been finely shredded and mixed into a ragu. I thought there was a good portion of ingredients and the ragu wasn’t too runny. I found it was a little too salty though. Very filling and I didn’t finish it all.

Lalla Rookh has quite a large place with several cosy seating areas inside. There were plenty of city workers enjoying drinks and dinner. We asked what the name of the place meant and our waitress mentioned it was named after an old gold mine. And something about a Persian Princess? Both the entree and my main were full of flavour and cooked beautifully. Service was friendly and wait staff checked up on us to take drinks orders and fill up our tap water. In summary, this is a nice casual spot in the CBD to enjoy dinner and drinks with friends.
