Thai Garden restaurant is located in Dickson, opposite the Copa. This is a place I’ve always walked past but never went in to. A living social voucher came up offering dinner for 2 including entrees, soups and mains so it was a great opportunity to try it out.

For the entrees, we chose the curry puffs (4 per serve) and the devil prawns (2 per serve). The curry puffs were nice with soft fluffy potato, peas and carrot inside with a lovely flaky outer pastry. I didn’t think they were as good as the Thai Spice curry puffs though! The devil prawns came wrapped up like a spring roll with a prawn inside (you can just see the tail of the prawn hanging out of the spring roll), and a chicken mince mixture. Quite spicy! I liked both entrees.

We both ordered the tom yum soup – a tad sour and spicy, with chicken, onions, mushrooms and bamboo. I hadn’t had a tom yum soup in ages so this made me sweat a bit.

I ordered the seafood green curry as a main but the red curry came out instead. I wasn’t too fussed. The curry consisted of mussels, prawns, crab stick, octopus, eggplant, capsicum, peas and bamboo. I found it was too watery (I like my curries to be thicker). I also didn’t find it as flavoursome as some other places. I’ve definitely had better elsewhere.

The second main was the jungle duck consisting of lots of greens, onion and shredded duck meat in a soy/oyster sauce. A healthy option with crunchy greens but I didn’t think there was much duck meat in it.

To be honest, I’ve had better Thai elsewhere. However, the service here is extremely friendly and there was only one wait person working the floor the whole time. I hear they have a loyal following of regulars too.

Things to note: Doggy bag plastic containers are charged 50 cents.
