For my partner’s birthday, I ordered a cake from the Flute Bakery. He chose the Grand Marnier cake – white chocolate and grand marnier mousse with vanilla sponge and chocolate sponge. There are two sizes – 22cm cake for $40, or the 18cm for $30. Pretty reasonable prices.

At least one day’s notice is required for the bakery to make the cake. It was ready for me to pick up by 8am on the day I wanted it. Flute is only open on weekdays and closes at 3pm so I left work early to pick it up.

The Grand Marnier looked awesome! Beautiful milk chocolate ribbon-like frills decorating the top of the cake with white chocolate trimmings. This was lovely, light and moist with perfect portions of each element.  A simple cake with no other special textures or flavours such as their other pastries I’ve tried previously.

Yummy! I couldn’t resist trying the remaining ‘assiette’ from the glass cabinet – a selection of 4 miniature desserts which are just the right portion to nibble on. I honestly couldn’t tell what flavour the macaron was. All macarons are only $2 from Flute so I’d be interested in trying out their other flavours (hopefully they’re more flavoursome!).The mini-cube consisted of white chocolate mousse sitting on a slice of dark chocolate with a dollop of cherry jam on top. This was okay but a bit too much white chocolate for me.

Flute Bakery Fyshwick assietteThe little plastic cup consisted of a layer of vanilla mousse, a layer of jam, a layer of chocolate sponge, a layer of salted caramel and topped with chocolate ball wafers. I had to eat this over the sink holding a bowl underneath as when you dig your spoon in, all the balls spill out. I liked this – very tasty!

The profiterole had two components – the top was filled with cream and the base was filled with salted caramel. Yum

I’m yet to try out their hot meat pies but pretty much anything you get from Flute will taste amazing. I just wish they could stay open a little later.
